Who we are
Muddy Stilettos is a Canadian women’s media brand. This policy explains what personal information we collect through muddystilettos.ca, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Questions go to hello@muddystilettos.ca.
What we collect
- When you join the community: your first name and email address, so we can send you our emails.
- When you contact us: your name, email address and whatever you write in your message.
- When you comment on a story: your name, email address, your comment, and your IP address. Comments are reviewed before they appear, and only your name and comment are shown publicly.
- When you share a story with us (Shared Stories, when submissions open): your name or your choice to publish anonymously, your email address, your story and any photo you send. We never publish anything without editing it and getting your permission.
- When you browse the site: information about your visit, such as pages viewed, the type of device and browser, how you arrived, and approximate location. We collect this through Google Analytics, which uses cookies.
- For security: our security service records IP addresses and login attempts to protect the site from attacks.
How we use it
- To send the emails you signed up for.
- To reply to your messages and publish comments and stories you’ve submitted.
- To understand which stories readers find useful, so we can write more of them.
- To keep the site secure.
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
Emails and your consent
We only email you if you’ve signed up. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time. We send our emails through Mailchimp.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the site. They only use your information to provide their service to us:
- Mailchimp (Intuit), for our email list and emails.
- Google Analytics, for visit statistics.
- Our web host and our security service (Wordfence), to run and protect the site.
Some of these providers store information in the United States or other countries outside Canada, where it may be subject to the laws of those countries.
Affiliate and outside links
As an Amazon Associate, Muddy Stilettos earns from qualifying purchases. When you click an Amazon link on our site, Amazon may set cookies to record that the visit came from us. Our merch is sold through Etsy, and our books are sold through Amazon. Moda Academy is a sister company of Muddy Stilettos. When you leave our site for any of these, their own privacy policies apply.
Cookies
We use cookies for visit statistics (Google Analytics) and to keep the site working. Affiliate partners may set cookies when you follow their links. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on.
How long we keep it
- Email list: until you unsubscribe.
- Messages: as long as needed to respond, then up to 12 months.
- Comments and published stories: as long as they’re on the site, or until you ask us to remove them.
- Visit statistics: 14 months in Google Analytics.
Your choices
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent and ask us to delete it. Email hello@muddystilettos.ca and we’ll respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update it here and change the effective date at the top.
